W.C. Whitney consulted with Olmsted, Olmsted & Eliot about siting his house on his 530 acre estate on Long Island. In 1895, he wrote to F.L.O. Sr and then indicated he would like to work with Eliot whom he knew. Eliot was ill at the time, so Warren Manning visited the site and wrote an extensive report. The next communication was in 1923 when his son, H.P. Whitney, was building a new residence,

Sr and then indicated he would like to work with Eliot whom he knew. Eliot was ill at the time, so Warren Manning visited the site and wrote an extensive report. The next communication was in 1923 when his son, H.P. Whitney, was building a new residence, "Whitney Hall", elsewhere on the estate. The Olmsted Brothers firm provided siting recommendations and landscape design for this new house which was to be located on one of the high hills of the estate. In 1941, the firm wrote to C.V. Whitney, grandsonof W.C. Whitney, offering their services as he planned to rebuild on the site of his grandfather's original house. There appears to be no follow-up on the offer. In 1960 the Whitney property was purchased by a developer who sold 190 acres including the C.V. Whitney residence to what is now the Old Westbury Golf & Country Club. "Whitney Hall" still exists as a private residence nearby as well H.P. Whitney's studio.
