Frederick Law Olmsted designed the Malden Library, also known as the Converse Memorial Library, with renowned architect Henry Hobson Richardson. While the exterior facade matched the classic sandstone popularized in Richardon’s previous public buildings, the Malden Library featured several architectural intricacies.

Frederick Law Olmsted designed the Malden Library, also known as the Converse Memorial Library, with renowned architect Henry Hobson Richardson. While the exterior facade matched the classic sandstone popularized in Richardon’s previous public buildings, the Malden Library featured several architectural intricacies. Frederick Law Olmsted designed a forecourt for the L-shaped library, which allowed visitors to gather before the building's three central arches and hexagonal tower. He created separation between the green entrance lawn and open court with a short wall and wrought iron gate. One of the more expensive projects completed by the design duo, the building was designated as a National historic Landmark in 1985.
