synopsis
Pope Park was designed by Olmsted, Olmsted & Eliot in 1898. The Board of Park Commissioners requested a report regarding the “new layout of highways” and widening of roads in the park. Over the next five years, the Olmsted Firm prepared designs for the three sections of the park known as Hallowmead, Bankside Grove, and Park Terrace, consisting of 73, 13 and 4 acres respectively.

Over the next five years, the Olmsted Firm prepared designs for the three sections of the park known as Hallowmead, Bankside Grove, and Park Terrace, consisting of 73, 13 and 4 acres respectively. The park has changed dramatically since the 1970s. Several acres were lost to new residential and highway construction, and Park River, an original feature of the landscape, was filled in response to multiple floods.
