synopsis
The Olmsted Brothers began working on Riverside Park in 1895 after the city of Hartford acquired land for the dedicated purpose of creating a new green space. The project was led by J.C. Olmsted and a general plan was published in 1899 (plan 806-Z1-PT2). Originally 75 acres, the landscape included three dedicated playfields, meadow pond, wading pool, and ‘little folks lawn’.

The park no longer reflects the original Olmsted vision and will be undergoing a new expansion.
