Iroquois Park is defined by its steep terrain. As expressed in the parks 1897 planting report written by Warren Manning, Frederick Law Olmsted and John Charles Olmsted aimed to follow the natural tendencies of the landscape, telling commissioners “being careful of course, to make shade-loving plants predominate in shady places and plants that prefer the sun in open places.”

They designed a carriage drive called Circuit Loop that led to a 45-acre summit. Several vista points allowed visitors to enjoy scenic overlooks.
