The Olmsted Firm were hired by the Baltimore Municipal Art Society and Baltimore Planning Board to create a park system for the City. They began working on the project in 1896 and were commissioned to draw plans and submit reports for the development of Baltimore. Correspondence reveals the Olmsted Brothers were hired again in 1927 to complete a preliminary plan for park extension,

The Olmsted Firm were hired by the Baltimore Municipal Art Society and Baltimore Planning Board to create a park system for the City. They began working on the project in 1896 and were commissioned to draw plans and submit reports for the development of Baltimore. Correspondence reveals the Olmsted Brothers were hired again in 1927 to complete a preliminary plan for park extension, in which their services were to “primarily familiarize ourselves again…and to report to you if in any respect it seems to us that the plan which you already have in mind, may be added to, or improved as a broad conception of the needs of the situation.” [H.V.H. to Joseph W. Shirley_05-21-1925_LOC-OAR-B-R91_im.16] This lasting relationship resulted in the Olmsted firm completing several prominent jobs throughout the Baltimore area.
