John Charles Olmsted considered "The Uplands" in Oak Bay as "unquestionably the best adapted to obtain the greatest amount of landscape beauty." When he began work in 1907 on the subdivision, he broke away entirely from the traditional grid that guided previous large-scale Canadian subdivisions. The result is a beautiful naturalistic design with graceful, curving roads throughout

When he began work in 1907 on the subdivision, he broke away entirely from the traditional grid that guided previous large-scale Canadian subdivisions. The result is a beautiful naturalistic design with graceful, curving roads throughout that take advantage of the undulating site and numerous native Garry oaks, which have now grown to majestic stature.
