Frederick Law Olmsted Jr. was hired by the Boulder City Improvement Association in 1907 to prepare a report on the beautification and development of Boulder, CO. For the small mountain town, the Olmsted Brothers focused principally on presenting suggestions for the streets, the waterways and public open space. Recommendations included widening avenues, introducing a sewage farm, and preserving the natural scenery at Flagstaff Mountain. In the report FL Olmsted Jr. noted “Boulder will have a gradually increasing importance as a local distributing center for the necessities and comforts of life to a tributary area of farming and mining country of limited extent, and first rate facilities for carrying on this business need to be kept in view, parallel with the problem of a perfect city of homes as such.” [The Improvement of Boulder Colorado_FLO Jr._1910-03_HT_p.6]
