Frederick Law Olmsted Jr. created The Plan for New Haven in 1910. Serving on the Commission for the Improvement of New Haven with American architect Cass Gilbert, they worked to develop the city under the principles of the city beautiful movement and build upon the existing park system.
Frederick Law Olmsted Jr. created The Plan for New Haven in 1910. Serving on the Commission for the Improvement of New Haven with American architect Cass Gilbert, they worked to develop the city under the principles of the city beautiful movement and build upon the existing park system. Their report discussed strategies to transition New Haven from a small Connecticut town into a large metropolis. A major focus was put on the location of the railroad station to improve connectivity in and out of the city. The plan was built around a central green which would act as a plaza and primary gathering place. Work stalled on the plan in 1916 and it was not implemented.
