Pittsburgh’s Department of Public Works first reached out to the Olmsted Brothers in 1898 requesting assistance with planning of the city’s growing park system. In 1910, Frederick Law Olmsted Jr, in collaboration with a team of engineers, prepared a report titled ‘City Planning for Pittsburgh Outline and Procedure’.

In 1910, Frederick Law Olmsted Jr, in collaboration with a team of engineers, prepared a report titled ‘City Planning for Pittsburgh Outline and Procedure’. Focused on the development and planning of Pittsburgh’s Civic Center, located at the junction of Diamond and Forbes, their plan addressed 12 planning topics inclusive of water transportation, public lands and buildings, sewage systems, and legislative problems. The plan was adopted by the commission a year later.
