The 123 acres of Edgewood Park were designed by Frederick Law Olmsted Jr. in 1910 as part of the New Haven Plan. Drawings from 1911 detail a grading plan (05311-8) and the circulation of Edgware Road through the curved park. The firm prepared preliminary plans for the southeasterly part of Edgewood Park including the new park entrance of which they found “the immediate purpose of the proposed improvement appears to be the provision of an entrance into the park for those approaching it in vehicles by way of Chapel Street more direct and dignified than is afforded by the present entrance opposite Stanley Street.
