In 1917 the New Haven Park Commissioners contacted the Olmsted Brothers requesting their advice on the improvement of the “so-called Beaver Ponds territory”. Frederick Law Olmsted Jr. drew preliminary plans for Beaver Pond Park in New Haven, CT, in 1920 detailing proposed boundaries, circulation paths, and plantings (plan 05314-18). Olmsted’s landscape design expanded the 93-acre park by connecting it to additional parcels of adjacent land through the use of parkways. The plan proposed two schemes, or alternative proposals in which it was communicated to the Vice-President of the park that “the amount of land to be acquired is nearly the same.” [FLO Jr to Rutherford Trowbridge _10-04-1917_LOC-OAR-B-R250_im.20]
