The Olmsted Brothers were hired to design the Civic Center following the preliminary report prepared by F.L. Olmsted Jr. on 7/17/1912 (found in the correspondence folder for project 05582) which in addition to discussing the Mountain Park Project discusses the Civic Center and other park and boulevard recommendations within the city of Denver. The report stated “The ultimate success of the Civic Center considered in the largest sense and not merely as a park or merely as a series of adjacent public buildings and their grounds, will depend upon the harmonious union of the surrounding building and the park into a single great design, and to bring this about it is essential that the designers of the general plan, having no partiality as regards the architectural effect of any one particular building, should be in a position to speak with authority upon purely architectural matters as well as upon those of park design.” [FLO Jr. to John S.
