In 1931, the Olmsted Brothers were invited to “submit a report on the development of 771 feet of lake shore property owned by the Town of Palm Beach”. The plan by William. L Phillips, a representative of the firm in Florida, suggested capping the height of bulkheads as “above that the sea walls begin to look unduly high, formidable, unduly conspicuous, and out of scale”

L Phillips, a representative of the firm in Florida, suggested capping the height of bulkheads as “above that the sea walls begin to look unduly high, formidable, unduly conspicuous, and out of scale” and recommended a “a gently curved shoreline” in order to “maintain a maximum freedom of visibility from the road over the water.” [Report to the Garden Club of Palm Beach_04-17-1931_LOC-OAR-B-R289_im.2&3] Plans were drawn and passed to the local government, however correspondence reveals that the firm had no involvement in the project’s execution.
