The estate of Charles F.T. Seaverns, a well-known Hartford philanthropist, was designed in 1917 by the Olmsted Brothers. The planting plan for the prominent property (06568-24) featured several different turfs and gardens. Evergreens were chosen to line the curved driveway and to make the flower garden rectangular - “The central portion can be left in grass with flowers between the walks…It can have a pool in which lilies can be planted.” The goal was to allow for the garden to be “kept as simple or made as elaborate” as the client might wish in the future.
