In 1931 Clifford Roberts contacted the Olmsted Brothers regarding the “364 acres, which is known as Fruitland Manor, and is located about one and a half miles northeast of the Bon-Air Vanderbilt Hotel at Augusta.” Working with golf architect Dr. Alister Mackenzie, the firm engaged their services and drew a plan with the understanding that the Florida commissioners were “aiming for a first class product not only in the recreational facilities but in the landscape and lotting developments as well.” [Edward Charles Whiting to Mr. Clifford Roberts _07-14-1931_LOC-OAR-B-R452_im.7] The preliminary plan showed two courses surrounding a central club house, tennis courts, and caddy yard. (plan 09275-20).
