A preliminary plan (09850-24) for Sunset Ridge Memorial Park was prepared by the Olmsted Brothers in 1950. Located in East Hartford, CT, the park was designed as a dedicated place of recreation. The plan included several open slopes for winter sledding and chip golf, as well areas for tennis courts, baseball fields, and picnic tables. A circular road connected the different sections of the long rectangular park, including a clubhouse, adirondack shelter and scattered cabins Interstate highway construction took some of the original parkland thus impacting the intended recreation areas -and it is now known as Veteran’s Memorial Park.
