Description
In his plan of 1874 Olmsted carefully arranged this diagonal view of the Capitol, designing a wrought iron arbor with sheltered seats from which to enjoy the vista. He planted the triangular panel in front of the seats with shrubs, creating a dark green foreground of foliage that heightened the dignity and monumentality of the building. - C.E. Beveridge {Vegetation - Circulation - Building}
