Description
In their prize-winning “Greensward” proposal of 1858, Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux described the quarter-mile long Central Park Mall as “the central feature in our plan for laying out the lower park.” They intended it to be a “grand promenade” for strolling, music concerts, and watching the parade of fashionable carriages on the nearby drives. - C.E. Beveridge {Vegetation - Circuation - Site Furnishing}
