Description
In his plan of 1875, Olmsted reversed the arrangement of the original plan for this grand promenade. He moved the pedestrian path to the edge nearest the Hudson River, and sited the bridle path and carriage drive inside of it. “The outer walk would generally follow a bold terrace,” he wrote, “the slope below being planted with shrubs so arranged as to shut out of view the buildings and docks and allow the eye to range over the expanse of river beyond.” - C.E. Beveridge {Vegetation - Circuation - Structure}
