Description
The rustic shelters shown in the photograph provided destination points for the flotilla of rowboats on Prospect Lake, designed by Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux in 1866. A stream flowed constantly into the lake along a watercourse designed by Olmsted and Vaux. A massive steam-pump recirculated water from the lake to the Fallkill Falls near the Long Meadow, after which it flowed through pools along the meadow, over a series of falls in the steep-sided Ravine, past the pastoral Nethermead and back into the lake. - C.E. Beveridge {Vegetation - Circuation - Water Feature - Structure}
