Description
In his plan for Belle Isle of 1883, Frederick Law Olmsted designed the semi-circular canal at the eastern end of the island as a protected area for canoes and small boats. He used it to separate the section of the park containing the steamboat pier and sports facilities from the more extensive area of meadows and open woods. - C.E. Beveridge {Vegetation - Circuation - Water Feature - Structure}
