The officiers of the Hayden Lake Improvement Company lived in Spokane, WA, but Hayden Lake itself is in Idaho. The company, headed by A.L. White, F. Lewis Clark and F.A. Blackwell, bought the land at Hayden Lake in 1906 with the intention of building a hotel and cottages. Engaging the Olmsted Brothers firm was logical, since White was a client for both parks and private developments in Spokane.
